History for the builden -
Flåm Marina & Apartments
The site of the new Flam Marina and Apartments has a short, but varied, history. It was first an abattoir between 1920 and 1945 . In 1951 it was bought by a wood warehouse, who enlarged the house which was then sold to their manager. In 1975 he sold the site to another wood warehouse company.
It began to be used as a tourist location by Heimly Pension, who bought it in 1980. From here they ran a bar between 1985 and 1998 and rented a pedal boat and rowing boats. In 2002 they built a new floating jetty which can accommodate up to 10 boats. The place became a very popular spot, especially on sunny summer days.
Flam Marina & Apartments bought the site in 2003 and replaced the old house with the new wooden property, which was built by local builders under the direction of Kjell Tokvam.
The new Flam Marina & Apartments opened its doors on July 9th 2004 and its guests can now enjoy one of the most spectacular views of Sogne Fjord from their own dining rooms and balconies in the superbly equipped apartments. They can also take a drink or eat a meal at the on-site bar and restaurant while feasting their eyes on the mountains, waterfalls and still waters of the fjord. They may even spot a visiting whale although they are mostely seen in the winter months.
